TEACHING WATER SAFETY

To date 794 adults (primary and secondary school teachers, pool lifeguards, resort security guards), have been trained to teach Swimming and Water Safety. They receive a Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety Certificate, which is based on the AUSTSWIM course, but made suitable to local conditions and specific needs

TRAIN THE TRAINER

Since starting in 2012, WSV has trained 502 young Vietnamese men and women to full AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety certification -  an internationally recognised teaching qualification.

TEACHER REQUALIFICATION

WSV sees itself as both trainers and mentors, and continues support after intitial qualifiation, so trainers remain qualified. We believe this approach will ensure sustainability of swimming programs in Vietnam without the need of overseas aid.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION

Whilst our students are learning, their families are also learning about Water Safety Skills and one of our future goals is to introduce adult classes for water safety so more people understand 'if you can't swim don't go in'.

WATER SAFETY & SWIMMING

So far more than 6821 children, between 5-17 yrs, have been taught the basic aspects of water safety, rescue and swimming. The most rudimentary skill of knowing how to float and to rescue without entering the water (throw/reach)  can mean the difference between life and death. WSV ensures this is one of the first things taught.

CPR TRAINING

Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation is a life-saving emergency procedure. WSV has so far trained 1870 adults in Vietnam with this skill. Knowing how to properly resuscitate a drowning victim increases their survival rate significantly.

SWIM EQUIPMENT & GEAR

WSV has distributed over 4000 swimsuits to needy children. Plus swimming noodles, goggles and kick boards. These are all items that we take for granted in swimming lessons for our children, but are 'luxury' items in Vietnam. Your simple donations can mean so much.

ON-GOING RESEARCH

Conducting research to know how many of our course graduates are teaching swimming and water safety is important. The success of our programs depends on the transfer of knowledge and skills. We need to know that the swim programs can 'stand alone' and be maintained by local Vietnamese teachers and supporting organisations.
